Militant Kindergarten 2026

Weekly sessions on Zoom

Sundays at 9:00 AM (Los Angeles, US time zone)

January 11 to April 19, 2026

**Daylight savings will affect these times. All times listed are for Los Angeles, US.

What is Militant Kindergaren?

  • Militant Kindergarten is a 15-week seminar
  • Combining radicalizing and radicalized people into a shared learning space
  • Studying especifismo, a revolutionary current of anarchism coming from Latin America
  • Reading Social Anarchism and Organisation by the FARJ (the Anarchist Federation of Rio de Janeiro) and the abridged CES version, “104 Steps to Recovery of the Social Vector”
  • Refining and developing our understanding of anarchist theory, strategy, and militancy
  • Discussing specific passages, concepts, and theories
  • Aiming to create a dependably safe and welcoming environment for learning

*All the organizers have already attended this seminar at least once, and at the end, we’ll invite anyone interested to join us in organizing future Militant Kindergartens.

Participating

Each week, there will be pages to read from “Social Anarchism and Organisation”. The corresponding steps from the “104 Steps” can be read before (to give an overview of what will be covered in the chapter) or after (to review and reference specific quotes from the reading.

  1. During the first hour of every session, we’ll read through about 10 steps out loud, together, stopping after each step for explanation and clarification. To maintain a learning space that is useful for people with different degrees of knowledge about this text and especifismo generally, this time will specifically be for asking questions from the reading.
  2. During the second hour, we will split up into 2 groups for a discussion that will focus on something more specific from the reading (a concept, an event from history, a specific step, etc.) This time will specifically be for commenting and open discussion.

Some people might only read the 104 Steps, and others will use the abridged text more like a map to help follow along with the main text. Either way, we encourage everyone to take notes from the reading and organize them following the steps. This way, we’ll be able to easily share notes with each other and get back to specific parts of the text in the future.

There won’t be enough time to completely review or revisit the material that was covered in previous sessions. If you can’t make it to a session, try reaching out to others to help catch you up on anything you may have missed.

After the first few weeks, we will invite participants to join the CES Discord server, where we will be able to reflect about Militant Kindergarten, ask questions, and share resources.

*** Militant Kindergarten is rigorous and challenging, so it’s important to practice solidarity with each other.

**Our objective is as much about relationship building as it is about gaining knowledge about militancy and especifismo.

*We encourage everyone to reach out to others to discuss kindergarten and build relationships that will last beyond this project.

Ethics and Collective Responsibility

During meetings, we shape our behavior by:

1. Respecting the description and program of the group

2. Keeping a degree of formality in our meetings

3. Being friendly with regular participants and inviting new people to participate, in a welcoming and accommodating way

4. Not tolerating aggressive and authoritarian behavior

5. Not allowing space for misogyny, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or other prejudices

6. Respecting all races, beliefs, and ethnicities of participants

7. Not taking up learning time with ideological, political, or tactical disputes

8. Striving for a level of cordiality among participants that creates a culture of respect that is immediately recognizable to newcomers

9. Not tolerating disrespectful attitudes or ableism

10. Making an explicitly anti-capitalist and anti-authoritarian space, with a bias toward the side of the oppressed classes in their struggles

**For us, learning is a collective endeavor. At the Center for Especifismo Studies, we understand that we all have different needs. There is no single form of participation that can meet everyone’s individual requirements, and certain aspects of a situation can sometimes be disabling to people.

*If you know of a way that we can accommodate your participation or if you would like to collaborate on potential modifications, please contact us via email.
